Trim Paint Color Tips by Benjamin Moore
When you decide to paint a room, your focus is usually on the wall color. The walls cover the most area of a room, so it makes sense, but choosing the perfect color for your trim is equally important. Whether you’ll be painting window frames, crown molding, or wainscotting, the color you select will help frame the space and make your wall color pop. And with selections from Benjamin Moore, our team at paintCLE is here to help find the perfect trim paint for you.
Color Combinations
When deciding on the trim color, you have a few options and can use these colors to highlight different aspects of a room. Your trim can blend in with the room for a subtle touch of style or create eye-catching contrast for an added layer of visual interest. Using complementary colors in a room creates a calm, balanced aesthetic. If you choose to go this route, trim is usually painted in subdued neutral hues such as white, cream, or beige shades. Simple trim allows your wall color to take center stage while still drawing attention to a room’s texture and other details. This is one of the most popular looks as it is a timeless choice and never out of style.
You can achieve a bold, contemporary look by painting trim in a contrasting shade. If you have interesting details in a room, such as unique doorways or a fireplace mantle, this is a great way to bring attention to those. Walls that are a neutral hue pair exceptionally well with darker shades of blue, purple, green, and any color you like! A high level of contrast adds an element of excitement to any space.
A monochromatic color palette is another fun option. You often see this style in all-white rooms, but you can do it with any color. If you want this look but aren’t sure about painting the walls and trim the same color, just go with the same color, a shade or two lighter or darker. Remember that all colors, even whites, have undertones that can make or break a look if not paired correctly.
